Gin and cognac split down the middle with both vermouths and a dash of Angostura, stirred and served up with an orange twist. A pre Prohibition classic from the New York restaurant that basically invented American fine dining.
4 steps, about 5 minutes start to finish.
Combine the gin, cognac, both vermouths, and bitters in a mixing glass with ice.
Stir about 30 seconds, until well chilled.
Strain into a chilled coupe or Nick & Nora glass.
Express the orange twist over the top and drop it in.
“No dry vermouth? Use all sweet vermouth; the drink leans a little richer and still works. Chill the glass ahead, a stirred drink deserves it.”
